Post Match Comments:

Newcastle manager Big Sam said:

"We scored three great goals, we outplayed Tottenham, we went out there and did what we wanted to do - and that was get three points. We have not moved in the table but we have got within one point of the top pack now. We have played nine games, we have 17 points and it is our best start in 10 years now.  From my point of view and that of the players, with us all just coming together in July, it is a terrific performance up to now from the team."

Martin Jol said:

"It's always difficult going to places like Newcastle, but on the other hand I thought we looked fairly comfortable for the first 40 minutes. Then what happens? They score one minute before half-time and it's the same old story. If you concede goals like that you can't expect to win games. We played well, but even when we play well we seem to concede goals like that first goal - a long ball to a small striker. The second goal was the same. Before the game we tell them who to pick up for the near-post header, but they don't do it. It's disastrous. We came back into the game, but every time we tried to do something, they scored."

  Match Report:

Goals from Obaefemi Martins, Cacapa and James Milner saw us beat Spurs 3-1 to consolidate our spot in 8th place in the league.

Jols comments about us being a small team near Sunderland and Jenas saying he could tek any abuse the Toon Army hurl at him was like red rag to a bull.

The question on most peoples minds was: Who the hell is that on the right?

For some reason Sam had decided to play Geremi in the right midfield position, problem was he too often got dragged into the middle of the park which left our right back far to exposed, but I guess it the price you pay for wanting to stick Emre and Butt (who was a f'ing legend last night) on the pitch as well.

Milner was p*** poor on the left (he defo needs to play on the right). The only thing he did was score, which might not be so bad.

Caçapa and Faye were a solid unit and did a good job of stopping just about everything everything. Enrique's passing along the deck was too short but his stuff over the top caused all sorts of probs for their defence, with Martins and Owen both getting some good chances off them, one of which led to Martin's goal.

We struggled a bit when they shifted to a 4-3-3, but when Bent came on their front line went a bit pot. Sam shouldn't have brought Rozehnal on coz our midfield then sat far to deep, inviting Spurs to push forward and it left Martins with too much to do when he got the ball. In the end if the game had have been another 20 mins Spurs might have nicked an other but they and all the fans they'd brought up from Hartlepool had to gan yem with nowt.

Half time also saw the introduction of the hardest fan challenge known to man. The gist of it was each fan took it in turns to plonk the ball on the center spot and they then had to hit the cross bar of the Gallowgate end goal. The three poor sods they dragged out couldn't get the ball to the 18 yard box never mind the goal. It'll be easier to win the lottery this weekend.
