  Post Match Comments:
  Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder said
There were periods where we played well and periods where we did not and I thought there were a few players who disappointed me.

I wasn't satisfied with two or three performances and I've never had to say that before.  But I've got two weeks to sort that out and, hopefully, before Thursday there will be one or two more new players in at the club as well.

  Match Report:
A typical inept Newcastle United away performance, the sort that appears far too often every season, reared it's ugly head at our first Premiership away game of the season.

After three minutes of the game, the ball was failed to be cleared from our box and Luke Moore pounced, to fire the ball past Shay Given. From that moment on you got the feeling that we weren't going to win the game and it was going be one of those days.

James Milner had a chance to equaliser shortly afterwards but his strike went over the bar. We continued to dominate after that but failed to break down the Aston Villa defence and no meaningful chances were carved out.

A Villa counter attack on 38 minutes, saw Juan Pablo Angel ran on to a subtle Gabriel Agbonlahor pass and side-footed home to double the lead.

The game was all but over in the second half, when Obafemi Martins went off injured to reduce us to 10 men because all three substitutes had been made.

A poor performance overall and one which Glenn Roeder will be frustrated at. If we are going to challenge the top 6 sides, we need to have a good away record this season. For too long we have relied on our home form to get most of our points in the league. This trend has gone on for years and is not just a recent thing but never the less this mentality much change and soon.
